We are delighted to announce our new Cancer Support Service, which will begin operating by at the beginning of next year.
Focus groups, held with patients from Chipping Campden surgery, highlighted the need for a support service for patients who have had a cancer diagnosis. It is therefore our intention that this service will be there to provide information, support and comfort for the newly diagnosed and that support is continued through treatment to remission or through the progression of the illness.
We will be working closely with Chipping Campden surgery and two other local surgeries, reaching out to patients and offering psychological support through one to one appointments and support groups. We’ll also be working closely with Freestyle 360 gym to provide fitness, wellbeing and nutritional advice in preparation for treatment or post-surgery. The remainder of this year we will continue to plan the programme and we hope to launch this by January 2020 holding our first support groups and starting our first exercise and wellness programmes.
The service will be headed up by Heather Mitchell, who will be joining our team at the end of September. Heather is a highly regarded registered nurse who has an extensive background in palliative care, having managed hospice at home teams and worked in the day hospice at Sue Ryder in her previous role. She will be heading up our new Cancer Support Service.
If you have recently been diagnosed or are struggling post treatment or surgery, then feel free to get in touch independently if you feel we can be of any help. If you have any questions, please call 01386 840505 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
