Celebrate Apple Day

The Core of the Community: Celebrate Apple Day at Wolds End Orchard and Campden Home Nursing

On Saturday, 26th October, from 11 AM to 3 PM, Campden Home Nursing, with neighbouring charity, Wolds End Orchard, will host a community Apple Day at the orchard and at Jecca’s House, Chipping Campden. The free-to-attend event has family-friendly activities celebrating the apple harvest and the community.

People can explore the orchard and bring apples to be identified by fruit specialist Steve Oram.  This is thanks to funding by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species. The day includes apple crisping sessions and an interactive longest-peel competition.

There will be a selection of giant garden games, such as Jenga, Splat the Rat, and Buzz Wire, alongside a tombola, children’s art activities and live entertainment. The Men in Sheds group based at Jecca’s House will be on hand, to share their activities.

Refreshments will include home-baked apple cakes and bakes, made with apples from the orchard and Jecca’s House, along with tea and coffee, as a fundraiser. Freshly pressed apple juice will be on sale, as will honey from hives at the Orchard.

In addition to the activities, visitors can learn more about both Wolds End Orchard and the vital services provided by Campden Home Nursing. “Our doors will be open to the community, offering an opportunity to learn more about the support we give to people facing serious illness, end-of-life care, and bereavement support. We also offer carer support and children’s play therapy. Our mission is simple: to be there for you when you need us most,” said Campden Home Nursing CEO, Helen Makaritis.

Parking will be available at Chipping Campden High School, with spaces at Jecca’s House for blue badge holders and people with mobility challenges. Please note dogs are not permitted in the orchard.

The organisers welcome the community to come along, enjoy the day’s events, and celebrate the region’s strong apple heritage.

Owen O’Connell, Chair of Wolds End Orchard said: “Apple Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our harvest and the natural beauty of our community orchard. As an entirely volunteer-led organisation, we’re proud to collaborate with and support the many voluntary and charitable groups that make Campden special. Traditional orchards like Wolds End should be celebrated for their ecological importance and cultural role in bringing our community together.  In this sense, Wolds End Orchard is indeed core to Campden’s community”.
