Celebrating 35 Years of Hospice Care at Home

By David Brook, husband of our founder Jecca Brook

This year, Campden Home Nursing celebrates 35 years of providing hospice care at home – a remarkable legacy that began with one woman’s vision and a loaf of homemade bread.

In 1990, Jecca Brook founded the charity after recognising a need for compassionate end-of-life care in people’s own homes. What began as a small local initiative, funded by Jecca’s bread-baking, has grown into a trusted, independent charity supporting families across parts of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

Today, Campden Home Nursing provides end-of-life nursing care, bereavement counselling and wellbeing support, all free of charge. Though the charity has grown far beyond Jecca’s kitchen table, her values of care, comfort and community remain at its heart.

David Brook reflects: “It’s fantastic to see how Jecca’s vision has not only endured but flourished. She believed people should be supported to die at home, surrounded by loved ones. Campden Home Nursing continues that mission with the same compassion she inspired 35 years ago.”

In these challenging times for hospices, Campden Home Nursing is proud and privileged to continue giving hospice care at home, bereavement and wellbeing across the community. The need has never been greater, and the charity remains committed to keeping its services free of charge, sustained by donations, grants and community fundraising.

To mark this milestone, you are warmly invited to the 35th Anniversary Christmas Concert at St James’ Church, Chipping Campden, on Saturday 29 November, 6 – 8 pm.

The concert will be curated and conducted by John Lubbock OBE, Jecca’s brother, and will feature performances from his Oxford choir, The OSJ Voices, alongside Derek Paravicini (pianist), Hannah Davey (soprano) and Hope Cramsie (guitarist). There will also be uplifting Christmas carols for everyone to join in. Readings by Sir Loyd Grossman and renowned local actor, Ed Bennett.

Tickets are on sale online, at our charity shop and Jecca’s House at £20 for adults and £10 for under 18s.
