The wonderful community of Willersey and surrounding areas came together on Thursday, 19th December, raising nearly £2,000 at Campden Home Nursing’s festive Bingo Night!
The event was hosted at The Bell. Landladies Sue and Lou went above and beyond by gifting the fish and chip supper to the charity, significantly boosting the evening’s fundraising efforts.
By 7:15 pm, bingo players were seated with their cards, dabbers, and drinks, ready for “eyes down” at 7:30. Diane Mason from Campden Home Nursing took the role of bingo caller, keeping the evening running smoothly with her clear explanations and good humour, ensuring any minor hiccups were met with laughter.
The highly anticipated fish and chips, billed as “mini,” turned out to be hearty and utterly delicious. The Bell itself sparkled with festive charm, lavish decorations, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that added to the magic of the evening.
Special games brought an extra dash of excitement. At a random moment, The Bell’s impressive bar bell rang, declaring the next game-winner to be the lucky recipient of a bottle of champagne. The roulette game was equally thrilling, with players eliminating each other by drawing tickets from a tub, culminating in the ultimate winner, Heather—the host’s wife, much to everyone’s amusement!
The fundraising raffle was another highlight, with generous prizes, including a Cotswold Gold Ultimate Feast Hamper, another hamper by RE Recruitment Services, chocolate treats donated by The Bell’s regulars, and wine gifted by the organiser. Guests again showed their kindness, buying tickets and supporting the cause wholeheartedly.
Anthony Lishman, a trustee of Campden Home Nursing and a proud Willersey resident, hosted and organised the evening. During a brief talk, he shared insights about the charity, which supports individuals across Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and Warwickshire. In 2024, Campden Home Nursing delivered over 10,000 hours of hospice-at-home nursing, 365 bereavement counselling sessions, 400 child play therapy sessions, and vital well-being support.
Volunteer, Cath McQueen, delighted everyone with her homemade mince pies, praised for their delicate, melt-in-the-mouth pastry.
Laura Cameron, Fundraising Manager at Campden Home Nursing, summed up the evening perfectly:
“We are absolutely over the moon with how tonight turned out. The guests were warm and generous, and it’s been such a fantastic first event for me with the charity. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us, to the community of Willersey, and to Sue, Lou, and the incredible team at The Bell for making it such a memorable night.”
A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and supported Campden Home Nursing. Your generosity ensures we can continue providing care and comfort to those who need us most.
