Chicken Run 2025 raises spirits and funds for local hospice at home care
The heat was on – and so were the feathers – as 70 runners braved blazing sunshine at this year’s cluck-tastic Chicken Run in Blockley, raising vital funds for local charity Campden Home Nursing.
With temperatures soaring, even the people wearing inflatable chicken outfits were cooking in their own juices, as participants flocked to Sheaf House Farm for a 5K countryside scramble. Whether trotting, jogging, or walking the route, every entrant brought energy, good humour and glorious poultry-themed fancy dress to this feel-good fundraiser.
BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenters joined the fun in chicken and egg costumes, but who came first, while dozens of others donned wings, beaks, and farmyard flair.
The event was made possible thanks to the generosity of Sheaf Farm’s owners, who allowed runners access to their stunning land. “The atmosphere was eggs-traordinary – a real mix of fun and fundraising, even with the heat,” said one participant as she crossed the finish line.
Local businesses came out in force too, with Northcot Brick sponsoring, and JWS Cotswold not only sponsoring the event but entering a cracking team of runners. Cotek also generously supported the event, helping Campden Home Nursing continue its essential work delivering end-of-life care, bereavement support, and community well-being activities at no charge.
The route, a 5K cross-country loop, was expertly marshalled by a wonderful team of volunteers, with water provided at the start, finish and halfway point thanks to Co-op and Morrisons. Cotswold First Responders were also on hand to ensure everyone stayed safe in the scorching conditions.
Before the race, a lively group warm-up led by 360Fit Gym got everyone moving. Afterwards, Lashford sausage baps, homemade cakes and flapjacks were enjoyed by runners and spectators alike.
Awards were given to the fastest runners, James Walsh and James Graham. The best outfits went to the participants with great stamina – the three inflatable chickens, Caroline Cameron, Nicola Appleby, and Nikki Evis, and the fox, Stuart Stock. Additionally, Rory and Seamus O’Donovan received joint recognition for the cutest outfits.
“This was our hottest Chicken Run yet – in every sense!” said Laura Cameron, Fundraising Manager. “We’re so grateful to everyone who helped us pull it off – our sponsors, hosts, runners, marshals, volunteers, bakers, and all who came to support. We had fun, we raised funds and it was fantastic to get so many families involved. We’d love to be back next year with even more feathers and flair.”
