The weather was ‘fowl’ but only a few ‘chickened out.’
Over 80 runners and walkers turned up for our inaugural Chicken Fun Run – braving the wind, rain and mud to ‘fly’ over a somewhat soggy 5K route in support of Campden Home Nursing. As well as helping us raise just over £4,000 they all ‘kept their peckers up’ with smiles on their faces and sporting yellow feathers, perky tails and chicken wings!
After a speedy registration the flock gathered to eye up the competition and address their wardrobe mal-functions (a broken wing and a missing red foot, to name a few). Then before the race, Marcus White, of 360Fit Blockley got the chickens warmed up in preparation to fly the coop. Runners and walkers stoically wended their way along the 5K cross-country in a truly valiant race to the finish line. Mostly, the rain held off and their enthusiasm, good spirits and humour helped them triumph over adversity.
Congratulations to the winners! Medals were given out to:
- Fastest Male Runner: Oliver May
- Fastest Female Runner: Brooke Rossney
- Best Dressed Chicken: Tanya Campbell
Runners, walkers, volunteers and marshals, thank you, we are so grateful to you all. Thank you so much too, to Marcus, of 360Fit Blockley who gave us wings for the event, generously preparing the route and hosting the run.
A special shout out to the Campden First Responders who were on hand (and luckily not needed) – thank you!
A huge thank you too, to our generous sponsors. We could not have done it without you; Northcot Brick Limited, Cotek Papers Ltd, Lashford Sausages, Holmans Estate Agents Coop Chipping Campden Campden and Broadway Osteopaths and Meon Vale Londis.
Enough of the chicken puns now, we promise – until next year! We hope you’ll join us again.
