From Bargains to Big Hearts: Inside Campden Home Nursing’s Charity Shop

By Marion Ward, Charity Shop Manager

“People come into our shop and generously donate all sorts of things. We unwrap surprise parcels filled with pottery, ornaments, books, jewellery, kitchenware, and clothing – it feels like Christmas every day! One moment it might be a fabulous Pucci dress, the next a charming old ornament of grinning pigs – priceless in its own way. Every item has been someone’s pride and joy, and we’re delighted to pass them on for others to enjoy while raising vital funds and awareness for our charity. We’re so lucky to receive such wonderful donations and very grateful to you for thinking of our shop and supporting Campden Home Nursing.”

“I chatted with Jecca Brook, our founder, in 2018, about opening a charity shop. She said, “You must! It’s what Campden needs.” And she was so right. She became a regular visitor.”

“The shop is run largely by volunteers. I would love to say a huge thank you to all 15 volunteers. They are dedicated and supportive. They are super enthusiastic and most have been with us since we opened. They take pride in keeping the shop looking great and the customers and donors happy.”

“Our window displays are curated from shop donations by Holly, one of our shop supervisors. It draws attention to passersby. The themed displays are well received and interesting for locals and visitors. There are lots of Christmas decorations, cards and gifts in the shop now.”

“I would also like to thank my assistant manager, Claire and supervisors Kate, Holly and Chris for their loyalty and support.”

“Our shop does far more than raise vital funds for Campden Home Nursing. It offers a welcoming space where people can learn how the charity can support them, find a bargain, donate unwanted items, or volunteer and enjoy a friendly chat. There is a great sense of community. This is the best job I’ve ever had. I love every minute.”
