Two local young men have successfully completed the iconic London Landmarks Half Marathon, raising vital funds for two much-loved hospice care at home charities – Kate’s Home Nursing and Campden Home Nursing.
Seb Makaritis and Jacob Dee, friends since primary school and sixth form pupils at Chipping Campden School, took on the 13.1-mile route through central London at the weekend. Together, they completed the challenge in a fantastic time of 2 hours and 7 minutes, combining a personal achievement with a shared commitment to supporting charities close to their families’ hearts.
Seb is the son of Helen Makaritis, CEO of Kate’s Home Nursing, based in Bourton-on-the-Water, while Jacob’s mum, Anita Dee, is the Play Therapist Manager at Campden Home Nursing, supporting children who have experienced bereavement.
Through their efforts, Seb has raised an incredible £900 for Kate’s Home Nursing, while Jacob has raised over £600 for Campden Home Nursing. And their totals continue to rise! Their fundraising will help both charities continue providing essential hospice care at home and bereavement support to local families.
London Landmarks Half Marathon is one of the UK’s most popular closed-road running events, taking participants past some of the capital’s most famous sights while raising millions for charities each year.
Helen Makaritis, CEO of Kate’s Home Nursing, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Seb and Jacob for taking on – and completing – this challenge. Fundraising like this makes a real difference. To continue providing our services free of charge, we need to raise approximately £700,000 this year. We rely on our supporters to help us raise the majority of this money.”
Anita Dee, Therapeutic Play Practitioner at Campden Home Nursing, said:
“It’s wonderful to see young people supporting their local hospices in this way. Every donation will help us continue to support families, including children, through some of the most difficult times in their lives.”
Both Kate’s Home Nursing and Campden Home Nursing provide hospice care at home, enabling patients to remain in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by loved ones, at the end of their lives.
The pair have expressed their gratitude to everyone who has supported them so far, with donations still making a meaningful difference to these essential local services.
Supporters are still encouraged to donate if they can, with every contribution helping to ensure more families receive compassionate care when they need it most.
