March Update
We hear many positive things about Campden Home Nursing and receive fantastic feedback on our charity work. At the start of the year, we thought it would be helpful to answer a few questions and explain a little more about how we support the community:
Is Campden Home Nursing a nursing home with beds at Jecca’s House?
It’s easy to understand how this can be misleading…but we are not a nursing or residential home. We are a local charity providing Hospice at Home nursing care, bereavement counselling and wellbeing support for the community.
All our nursing care takes place in people’s own homes, supporting them to die at home, surrounded by the people and things they love. Jecca’s House is our base, named after our founder, Jecca Brook. She believed everyone should have the choice to stay at home at the end of life. This remains our core mission today – to support people, at the end of life, in their own homes.
What happens at Jecca’s House?
Adults and young people attend one to one bereavement counselling. Children receive therapeutic play support. The community takes part in wellbeing and support activities. It’s also where our team coordinates our nursing care and from where we run the charity. It’s as much a community space as an office.
Why is fundraising needed?
Sadly, like nearly all hospice charities, we run at a significant loss each year. Most of our costs are for nursing care – day and night – and the bereavement support we provide. Our charity shop and legacy income help, but they don’t cover everything. Donations, events and fundraising are essential to preserve the future of the charity. Fundraising is needed to ensure we can continue to provide our service.
Does Campden Home Nursing have high overheads?
We are very cost-conscious and try to keep our overhead costs as low as possible. Supporting our 23 Nurses and Health Care Assistants, two Bereavement Counsellors and three Play Therapy Counsellors, are a small number of part time staff. We rely on nearly 50 volunteers who, in their free time, generously support our activities, fundraising and charity shop.
We are open to anyone who wants to chat to us about what we do and how the Charity is managed. Come and ask us anything and enjoy some cake (thanks to our great cake baker volunteers), coffee or tea at the same time!
