By Cathy Turner, Wellbeing and Bereavement Services Manager
We have talked about how, as a charity, we support people at the end of life and how we help the bereaved. Our wellbeing activities run at Jecca’s House are less well-known. The activities are for people who feel lonely or isolated, often after the death of a close friend or family member.
“Our Bereavement Café, Dementia Friendly Café and Peer Support Group provide support to those who are grieving or caring for a loved one. Attendees enjoy a warm and friendly welcome and meet others in similar circumstances. Many say they feel less alone as they spend time with others who may be sharing similar experiences. It’s also nice to witness new friendships develop.”
“Each week, we run a guided Relaxation Group. Monthly, we host an Afternoon Tea and a Lunch where our volunteers prepare and serve homemade food. These activities promote wellbeing and we hope they give everyone who attends a boost.”
“In our beautiful outdoor space, the Gardening and Men in Sheds groups meet twice a week. People build new skills while enjoying working alongside one another. Together they help our garden’s health and create items to be proud of, such as hedgehog houses and bug hotels.”
Our wellbeing activities are possible due to the time and commitment of our wonderful volunteers. Rosie, a volunteer at Jecca’s House for over three years, says, “I thoroughly enjoy volunteering and, apart from making friends, I receive far more than I ever give.” We can’t thank all our volunteers at Jecca’s House and the Campden Home Nursing Charity Shop enough for their support.
