Complementary Therapies

Complementary Therapies can help to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with cancer or other life-limiting illnesses

What are complementary therapies?

Complementary therapies are a group of therapies that take a holistic approach to a patient’s care. This means you are supported as a whole person, incorporating your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. These therapies concentrate on supporting relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety. They can include massage, reflexology and Reiki, to name a few.

Here at Jecca’s House we are pleased to offer reflexology and massage in our beautiful therapy room. Kim Edwards is one of our registered nurses who has undertaken further training enabling her to perform both ‘M’ Technique massage and reflexology.

Reflexology – more than a foot massage

Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing. It is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the soles of our feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body and by applying gentle pressure in a systematic way can clear the energy channels and bring the body back into balance.

M’ Technique Massage

The ‘M’ Technique was developed in 1994 by Dr Jane Buckle who was a nurse working in intensive care where many of her patients were unable to talk and she wanted to find a way of communicating with them developing her method through touch which is one of the first senses we develop.

The ‘M’ Technique massage is a method of structured touch each movement is carried out in a set pattern, pressure and speed working on skin receptors. it is so relaxing it has been described as ‘physical hypnotherapy.’

Kim is always happy to explain the treatments offered and their benefits, in more detail on request.
